COASTAL CURRENTS
A vibrant fusion between the tangible and imagination.
In this mixed media piece, I explore my interpretation and memories of the coastline through a blend of traditional (embroidery) and modern (photography) media. Photography serves as the foundation, a sketch that gives context and contrast of the scene, while embroidery weaves my imagination and vision into it, by giving it depth and texture.
The process
I first divided the image, forming empty spaces that I gradually filled with embroidery, allowing my imagination to shape the final composition.
I chose photography as the foundation of my work because it captures the real-world textures, tones, and details of the coastline, providing a structured backdrop for my interpretation. The embroidery allows me to transform and reimagine the scene, adding depth, movement, and a tactile quality that photography alone cannot achieve. By combining these two, I create a dialogue between the seen and the imagined, blending precision with personal expression.
